Newhallville Community Action Network

Our Employee-led Equality Committee is Partnering with NCAN

We have started an employee-led Equality Committee here at NEBCO to help address inequities and under-representation of Black people in the Craft Beer industry.

The NEBCO Equality Committee is also tackling challenges close to home, and to that end, we have partnered with the Newhallville Community Action Network (NCAN). Newhallville Community Action Network is a community-led initiative that unites the common interests of Newhallville residents. NCAN addresses the needs of community members through information sharing, connecting one another to valuable resources, cultivating ideas, creating and maintaining strategic partnerships, and implementing actionable items. NCAN is a results-focused mobilizing force of committed individuals who work to obtain justice, equity, and fair representation in the Newhallville neighborhood of New Haven.

This neighborhood suffers from gun violence and crime, food scarcity and food insecurity, joblessness, homelessness, and the ravages of the COVID pandemic, which have affected people of color disproportionately.

Our efforts with NCAN have initially focused on helping the organization get registered as a 501c3 by providing funds for their registration. Our next project with NCAN will be to improve food security in a variety of ways: we will be helping NCAN to source garden beds, we will be working with Sacred Heart’s food network to provide compost for community use, and we are looking to help NCAN secure a Farmer’s Market which will increase the availability of fresh produce in the community.

Your help and patronage are greatly appreciated.
